Mr Elmar Brok, Chairman of the EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee, calls for giving ‚moderate policy a chance‘ in the MENA region in meeting with delegation of senior Israeli lawmakers

On 16th of February Mr Brok, Chairman of the EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee, met with a delegation of senior Israeli Members of Parliament representing several political groups in the Knesset. The delegation was led by Mr. Hanegbi, Chair of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, who addressed the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. The other members of the delegation were Member of the Knesset (MK) Michaeli, MK Perry and MK Oren.

In their meeting Mr. Brok shared, with his Israeli counterparts, his concern for the deteriorating security situation in the region. Mr Brok said: ‚whereas the EU’s neighbourhood was supposed to be a ring of friends, in recent months it is becoming a ring of fire‘. Chairman Brok urged the Israeli delegation to make sure that ‚moderate policy has a chance‘ in the MENA region.  In this regard, Mr. Brok called for giving a new impulse to the Middle East Peace Process so that the two-States solution looks credible.

Chairmen Brok and Hanegbi agreed for their respective committees to meet regularly and have joint seminars to discuss clearly-defined topics of mutual interest and concern.
