Elmar Brok expresses his support for the European aspirations of Moldovan people

The EPP spokesperson of Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok MEP, participated on Sunday in a rally that gathered more than 50,000 Moldovan people under EU-flags striving for their country to have a European future.

Elmar Brok, Chairman of the EP-Foreign-Affairs-Committee, expressed his support underlining that the European Union will continue to assist Moldova: “I went to Chisinau to support the Moldovan people who are looking for a democratic, European future of their country. Moldova has achieved tremendous progress on its European path signing in a record time the Association Agreement. This aims to achieve an unprecedented level of political association and economic integration.“ Mr Brok made clear that in the European Parliament, the EPP Group will make efforts to have the agreement ratified as soon as possible.

„We are living in defining times both for the European Union and for Moldova. We have to face major common challenges such as security threats at our borders. Europe was the one to offer the first hand to help Moldovan exports and to try to secure the energy independence of the country.“ Mr Brok said. „Europe stands for peace, freedom, economic and social progress, and for the equality of small and big countries. Europe stands for the rule of international law and against the use of force, contrary to what Russia does in Ukraine.“

He further pointed out the decisiveness of the upcoming elections. „A renewed engagement for further EU integration of the country is necessary. It will provide the opportunity to eliminate any remaining dividing lines and help tearing down all walls hampering the free movement of people, ideas, goods and services in Europe.“

Brok promised in his speech that the EPP will support the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova under the leadership of Vlad Filat and the government led by Juri Leanca.

He praised the achievements of the government within the last 5 years.
