Elmar Brok comments on the conclusions adopted today by the European Council on the state of play of the Brexit negotiations

Elmar Brok, the Brexit coordinator of the European People’s Party and Brexit Sherpa of the European Parliament, comments on the conclusions adopted today by the European Council on the state of play of the Brexit negotiations:

I welcome the conclusions adopted today by the European Council on the state of play of the Brexit negotiations. It demonstrates the existing consensus between the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council to maintain the current negotiating strategy. I see with concern that the British government still does not take its obligation to fulfil its financial commitments sufficiently serious enough to be able to start the second phase of the negotiations. Without additional progress in regard to the issues of the withdrawal agreement, it will also not be possible to start the negotiations on the future partnership in December.
